India now clinched the West Indies series by 4-1. In the last match, which was played on Sunday, August 7 at the Central Broward Regional Park in Florida, USA, India bowled out the host on 100 runs to script 88-run victory.
India had won the toss and opted to bowl first. Shreyas Iyer‘s 64 runs off 40 balls and a 76-run stand between him and Deepak Hooda (who scored 38 runs off 25 balls) helped India put 188/7 on the scoreboard.
West Indies’ response wasn’t strong enough. Openers Jason Holder became a victim of Axar Patel and he walked back on duck. Patel also dismissed Shamarh Brooks, who had scored 13 runs off 13 balls. Patel bowled out Devon Thomas as well.
Only Shimron Hetmyer scored a half-century knock. He played 35 balls to score 56 runs which included five boundaries and four sixes. But in 15.1 over, Ravi Bishnoi bowled a googly around the leg and Hetmyer cleared his front leg for a big shot but only managed to mistime it in the air towards long off and Iyer there took a simple catch.
Other batters got bowled out cheaply. Fours batters were dismissed on ducks. At the end, West Indies could add only 100 runs while chasing. They got bowled out in 15.4 overs. Axar Patel, who scalped three wickets with a maiden over and conceded 15 runs in three overs was awarded with the Man of the Match title.
“I was just focussing on keeping things simple, instead of trying too many things. Was just looking to use the surface to my advantage. The surfaces (in this series) have been helpful for me, so that has proved advantageous to me. Both in the ODIs and T20s, the pitches were fairly same. I don’t mind people calling me just an all-rounder, if I do well with the ball, I’ll be a bowling all-rounder, if with the bat, then a batting all-rounder,” Axar Patel said.
