India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. Aussie openers Green and Aaron Finch  walked out to bat but the latter’s innings was short lived when Axar Patel dismissed him on seven runs off six balls.

Green played a fiery knock of 52 runs off 21 balls with seven fours and three sixes at an impressive strike rate of 247.62 before Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed this dangerous batter. Bhuvi bowled this on a length and outside off, keeping it away from Green. The batter still went after it and slashed but this time the ball took the outside edge and went up in the air towards point. KL Rahul was stationed there and he grabbed a comfortable catch.

Steve Smith was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal on nine runs off 10 balls. This time Glenn Maxwell was dismissed not from Axar’s delivery this time but from a run-out by the bowler. He departed after scoring six runs off 11 balls.

Josh Inglis played 22 balls to score 24 runs with three fours before Axar trapped him and gave a breakthrough to his side. This happened in the 13.1 over when Axar bowled a short one on leg. Inglis made room and tried to go over the infield on the off side. But he sliced his shot straight up in the air towards covers where Rohit grabbed it easily.

Tim David played a fiery 27-ball 54-run knock with two fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 200. Harshal Patel was the one to trap him in the penultimate over but the damage was already done to India. At the end, Australia were able to put on 186/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Axar grabbed three wickets while pacer Jasprit Bumrah leaked 50 runs for the first time in T20Is.
