KS Bharat
Ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, one of the discussions amongst the Indian cricket fraternity was who will get the chance to replace Rishabh Pant as wicketkeeper. Pant will miss not just the entire four-match series but is likely to be get sidelined this year owing to his sustaining injury in a horrific car crash last year in December. There were three wicketkeeper batsmen in the squad for the series against Australia- KL Rahul, KS Bharat, and Ishan Kishan.
During the toss on Thursday (February 9) at the Vidarbha Cricket Stadium in Nagpur, the playing XI was revealed and Bharat, who was a natural replacement for Pant, received his cap. He became the 304th player to represent India in Test cricket. He previously played for India in Test but as a concussion substitute in Kanpur in November 2021.

Meanwhile, the much-awaited match started and the Aussie skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bat first. The two Indian pacers, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami gave India two early breakthroughs by dismissing the two openers.
Siraj sent Usman Khawaja packing for one run on the first ball of his spell, while David Warner once again faltered when Shami shattered his stumps. Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne are at the crease playing at 6* and 13* respectively and Australia have so far scored 25/2.
