India Women’s bowlers once again failed against the Aussie top-order batters in the 2nd T20I on Sunday (December 11) at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai. Apart from Deepti Sharma, no bowlers could able to give a breakthrough as previous match’s stars Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath took Australia to 187/1 in their allotted 20 overs. Australia are leading the five-match T20I by 1-0.

India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bowl first. In the 4th over, Deepti drew the first blood by dismissing Alyssa Healy. She attempted to slash it but top-edged the short ball toward the short man fielder Devika Vaidya who pouched the catch safely. Healy departed after a quick knock of 25 runs from 15 balls (including five fours) at a strike rate of 166.67.

It was the only wicket India could scalp when the dangerous duo of Moony and Tahlia McGrath unleashed carnage by toying with the bowlers, stitching an unbeaten 158-run in just 95 balls stand for the second wicket. It was also Australia’s highest partnership in T20Is.

Mooney scored an unbeaten 82 off 54 balls with 13 fours at a strike rate of 151.85, while McGrath played 51 balls to score 70 runs at a strike rate of 137.25 to give a commanding target of 188. The ICC No. 1 batter, Mooney, also etched a record on history books by becoming the fastest batter to score 2000 runs in T20Is in just 67 innings.

In the 1st T20I, after a combined contribution from the batters, and Deepti Sharma’s quickfire, India raced to a total of 172/5 in 20 overs. Though the total looked challenging for the Aussies, Mooney and McGrath toyed with the bowlers to chase down the target in just 18.1 overs. Mooney also scored an unbeaten 89 off 57 balls (with 16 fours), while McGrath scored 40 off 29 balls.
