Shubman Gill might not play IPL 2021 Second Phase : Report
Team India opener Shubman Gill, who suffered a shin stress fracture after the World Test Championship (WTC) final may be out of cricketing action for at least three months. The opening batsman has been ruled out of the upcoming Test series against England, but could also be out for a little longer.
According to a report in Inside Sport, the stress fracture could keep Shubman Gill out of the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well. If indeed that happens, it could be another huge blow for Kolkata Knight Riders, who already will be dealing with the absence of skipper Eoin Morgan and star pacer, Pat Cummins, who is also likely to miss the remaining matches.
Earlier, the news agency PTI had reported that Shubman Gill will miss two months of cricket. “Shubman has sustained a shin stress fracture, which will keep him out of action for minimum two months, which effectively rules him out of the first three Tests against England in August,” the source said on conditions of anonymity.
IPL 2021: Bad news for KKR as Shubman Gill all set to be ruled out from IPL phase 2
Team India and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been dealt a major blow after Shubman Gill was confirmed to be out for at least three months with an injury. Gill, who had established himself as one of the first-choice openers in the longest format of the game, will miss the entirety of India’s Tour of England, and his participation in the subsequent IPL 2021 Phase 2 is but ruled out.
The former India U-19 star has been a staple for KKR since he was snapped up in the auction and his absence could be a telling blow to the two-time champions as their captain Eoin Morgan is all set to be absent for the remaining matches.
However, KKR are yet to be updated on either’s availability status. When Inside Sport reached out to the franchise, a source from the KKR camp said the team is yet to receive an update from the BCCI and the Indian team management regarding the extent of Shubman Gill’s injury and his expected recovery period.
