A Kansas City-based attorney has shown interest in defending Tony Romo in his OWI arrest case. Romo is due in court in September.

Megan Harr, better known by her Twitter handle Megan Thee Lawyer, watched the TMZ video that showed police detaining CBS Sports color analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo on July 23 and concluded she could defend Romo in court. She tweeted:

I watch a LOT of DUI videos and I’d try this case in a heartbeat.

In another tweet, Megan hypothesized the reason behind Romo’s arrest. According to her, driving a vehicle after drinking is not illegal in many states. However, there’s a limit:

The driver can’t exceed a BAC of .08 or higher (Utah: .05) or when “impaired” or “unable to safely operate” a vehicle due to alcohol, drugs (including prescribed medicine).

The police cam footage revealed that the deputy questioned Romo whether he had consumed alcohol before taking the steering wheel. Romo denied that, but he also declined to take the breathalyzer test and asked permission to call his lawyer.

Harr wrote, “Asking/trying to call a lawyer does NOT infer guilt. In fact, it’s a logical move for someone as high-profile as TR to want to seek advice in this situation.” However, the deputy denied Romo the chance to call his attorney despite his repeated attempts.

Romo was stopped by the Milwaukee police after he was returning from a local golf tournament. The 46-year-old told the deputy that he was headed to his grandparents’ house. Instead, the police arrested Romo. He was released soon after because it wasn’t a criminal offense, but he still has to appear in court on September 21.

New evidence surfaced about Tony Romo’s OWI arrest

The California Post has obtained a copy of the citation from the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office. It disclosed additional details about Romo’s arrest.

According to the documents, while not visible in the footage, the police discovered an open container of booze on the passenger door when they impounded Romo’s black Jeep. This could potentially add a $267 fine to his name.

Romo’s second citation would be listed as unsafe driving per multiple reports. Romo reportedly drove into the “marked right distress lane to pass vehicles in lanes 1 and 2 during rush hour traffic before he ‘cut across the marked gore’ to get to where he wanted to go.” This would add another $235 fine. However, it’s the third citation that could potentially complicate Romo’s case.

Per the documents, Romo could face a penalty of up to $1,066 for driving under the influence in Wisconsin. CBS has yet to comment on Romo’s arrest, but Dan Le Batard feels that his time is nearing its end.

Given that his employers had to stage what was called an intervention to get him to work harder. Now you have an incident like this. It has a shame involved that if you were looking for a reason to get rid of somebody. This kind of publicity is reason enough.

Romo played 156 games for the Cowboys. He threw for 34,183 yards, 248 touchdowns and 117 interceptions. He had a 2-4 record in the playoffs.
