The beef between former Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch is the biggest topic of discussion in the NASCAR community. No:11 Toyota driver criticised the No:8 RCR driver over his poor form in the Next-Gen era. Unfortunately, the later thought the 23XI Racing co-owner was bashing him and slammed him ahead of the Kansas race, not realizing it was genuine criticism.
The spat got the attention of Hall of Famer Dale Eranhardt Jr. who has good relationship with both the drivers. He believes the wreck threats from Busch was the product of the two times champion being uninformed about what Hamlin said. the RCR driver didn’t see the whole 13 minutes of conversation his ex-teammate had about him and understood the context for criticism.
I’ll bet you $100,000 his a** ain’t watched the 13 minutes of it. If anything, he probably got a text from somebody. Someone said, ‘Man, this guy’s talking shit about you.’
Dale Earnhardt Jr. said on his podcast.
Further talking about the point, Junior shifted his focus to the massive struggles of the No:8 team in the 2026 season. Even having the champion crew chief Jim Pohlman, whom RCR hired from Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports, didn’t seem to have answers to make them better. Other than a good qualifying at Daytona, Kyle Busch hasn’t given anything for the Rowdy Nation to cheer about.
It’s odd to watch them struggle the way they have. Jim Pohlman went over there from here to be the crew chief. They came out of the gate with a great performance and qualifying at Daytona. It’s kind of been tough ever since. Kyle keeps having problems every week…

The major criticism of Denny Hamlin, which Dale Jr. agrees with is the fact that Busch is struggling to perform better that teammate Austin Dillon, something everyone expects him to do. A future first a first-ballot Hall of Famer should not struggle against an average teammate, and it shows how much not adapting to the Next-Gen car is affecting the veteran.
I think they would probably run just as good as Austin Dillon if they weren’t having the issues…Kyle is a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Dude is still a bada*s race car driver. He’s just not having a good time right now.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. asserted.
Denny Hamlin needs to be worried as Kyle Busch doesn’t hesitate to take revenge
The No:11 team needs to be worried about the RCR driver wrecking him when he gets a chance as he threatened in the coming races of 2026. On his podcast with Fox Sports’ Sean Hannity the veteran admitted that he would not hesitate to take his revenge on the track and recalled the most recent moment where he had payback on the track.

Like intentionally wrecking somebody, that needs to be a no-no. You can’t do that… Oh, no, I can’t say that. I’ve never done that. I have done that. You know, like just this past weekend, for instance, this guy behind me hit me and spun me out in the corner. And so then, I don’t know, 200 laps later, I got back to him, and I’m like, ‘See you, buddy,’ you know?
Kyle Busch told Sean Hannity.
While Busch is right to be offended for his former teammate’s comments, he should not be wrecking rivals over criticism. If he goes forward with threat, while failing to produce strong performance with RCR, the fans won’t be happy with him despite the fact that Hamlin is one of the most hated drivers in the Cup garage.
