The Rowdy nation was always strong, but a significant group of fans booing him when he was at his peak of his career with Joe Gibbs Racing and the veteran hated that dynamic.

Kyle wanted to be a fan favorite. He was. There’s fans of his listening to this show going, he was a fan-favorite. He had fans. He did. But he didn’t love being the guy that they booed. He didn’t want that.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. said on his podcast.

Dale Eranhardt Jr. reiterated that Kyle Busch always wanted the NASCAR community to understand how dominant he was as racer and recognize his greatness instead oof overlooking them due to their own biasness. It was unfortunate that the fans only realized how impressive the legend was when he already passed him prime and was struggling with RCR.

I think deep down in there, Kyle wanted affirmation, he wanted approval, he wanted people to recognize his statistics, his greatness, his wins. He kept winning, right? And he’d win and win and win, and look around and go, look at what I’m doing, you know. And where is the acknowledgment, right? Look at what I’ve done. He wanted that.

We get a knock on the door and there’s a little window above the door. So he’s sitting on the couch and I’m messing around, and I look out and I’m like, “It’s Kyle Busch. Uh-oh.”…He comes up off the couch and peeks out the door and just kind of props it open a little bit. It’s like, “Hey man, what’s up?” And I could hear him audibly say very loudly, “Happy Valentine’s Day.”

Amy Earnhardt said on her podcast.

It was the first time they had seen the happy and cheerful side of the legend up-close. Before that they only knew the serious and aggressive side of the veteran. Hence, she still cherishes that surprise and is the first thing that comes to her mind about the late Chevy driver.

And he’s got bags of M&M’s to share. There’s pink. There’s red. There’s all kinds of flavors here. He gave him like four or five bags of candy. He was smiling. He was happy. It was like a version of Kyle I had never seen before either. Well, so it was really nice to see Kyle in that moment. And from then on, I feel like both of us kind of looked at him in a different way.

Amy Earnhardt added.

The comments from the Earnhardt couple shows how much they loved and respected Busch. Their relationship went from rivalry to closeness in the sport and just like many in the sport, they are disappointed the fans took too much time to appreciate the real dominance if the legend.
