There are only a few quarterbacks in NFL history who have managed to uplift themselves to be among the greatest of all time. Currently, Matthew Stafford is very close to that tier.
After leading the Los Angeles Rams to win Super Bowl LVI, the franchise has continuously asked him to return every season. The 38-year-old was very close to calling it quits, but decided he could have another go after the organization made its intent clear to fight for another Vince Lombardi trophy this season.
After all, they came very close to winning one had the eventual champion Seattle Seahawks’ defense not stopped them from scoring in the fourth quarter of the NFC Championship Game.
Knowing what they had in their locker room, the Rams retooled their roster, adding Myles Garrett, Trent McDuffie, and convincing Aaron Donald to come out of retirement. Those defensive improvements may not have completely panned out with Garrett’s injury, but Davante Adams believes that someone on his side of the ball is the one who should be talked about more than anything else.
Well, to be honest, I think we’d be talking about him as maybe the greatest quarterback of all time.
Davante Adams said
The star wide receiver reiterated while on The Pat McAfee Show that his quarterback has not been talked about in the same breath as some of the all-time greats simply because of his losing seasons with the Detroit Lions.
Winning matters a lot in those conversations, and Matthew Stafford did not experience it as much as he is now doing with the Los Angeles Rams. Now, Adams believes that the man throwing the ball to him should be considered the GOAT.
Davante Adams believes Matthew Stafford would have been the undisputed GOAT if Sean McVay coached him
On the topic of not winning enough games impacting the legacy of players, Davante Adams then went on to explain what it could have been had Matthew Stafford always had a top-tier coach beside him.

If his whole career had been here with a guy like Sean, they’d be saying, ‘Is this guy literally the best quarterback that’s ever played?’ So winning games obviously helps a lot of that. I always respect the guys that can do it consistently for a really long time.
Davante Adams added
The wideout is suggesting that had someone as good as Sean McVay been with the play-call sheet, Stafford would undoubtedly have been everyone’s greatest of all time.
That is something coming from a player who spent a bit more than eight and a half seasons with a certain Aaron Rodgers. The latter is a surefire future Hall of Famer and considered to be one of the best of all time. However, Adams believes that his current quarterback is somehow better than his former.
Davante Adams details how Matthew Stafford fools defenses
While talking about how good Matthew Stafford is, Davante Adams started to detail what makes the father of four so good at his job. One of the things he detailed was how the Rams QB uses his other physical tools to fool defenses.
I’ve never seen any quarterback who plays with their eyes the way that he can.
Davante Adams said
Adams reiterated that fans and analysts only see the great pass. What they do not see is how his signal caller holds opposing defenders off him and his fellow receivers long enough to ensure that the pass falls into their hands untouched.
That possibly explains why Stafford has such a high touchdown-to-interception ratio, while also helping his top pass catchers register impressive stats. After all, that is why he is the reigning league MVP and may be an early favorite to repeat.
