Months later, Devin Haney’s father remains determined to seek proper legal consequences for Garcia.
Devin Haney‘s father and head coach, Bill Haney, has been instrumental in his training and development over the years. In a recent interview, Bill addressed their ongoing lawsuit against Garcia, emphasizing the importance of holding him accountable for alleged cheating. In the test, Garcia was found positive for using ostarine, a banned performance-enhancing substance. He was immediately given a one-year ban and was asked to pay $1.1 million of his fight purse to his promoter, Golden Boy Promotions. The victory over Haney was also changed to a no-contest, nullifying the win from Garcia’s professional record.
Ryan Garcia denied all these accusations and complained about potentially getting tainted supplements. During his suspension, Garcia announced plans to participate in exhibition matches, which do not require official licensing. However, Bill Haney isn’t satisfied with anything.

I knew there was something. I could have went on the fact that he had a great day. He was exceptional on that day. But when the test came back, I was upset….They are carrying the sport at that time….and for one of them to be cheating, it was great injustice to the sport.

In the ongoing lawsuit, Bill has also claimed that Ryan should be held accountable. The exact amount Bill and Devin sought in their lawsuit remained unclear. However, if they secure a significant financial settlement and a rematch with Ryan, it could be a major win for them. Still, there was no guarantee the outcome would work in their favor.
