DeVonta Smith made his stand clear on how he feels about Nick Sirianni as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. In that aspect, he seemingly harbors completely different views from Jalen Hurts.
Since entering the NFL, Smith only had Sirianni as his head coach, under whom he excelled and possibly leveled up as a wideout. He set the team records for receptions, yards, and touchdowns in the first three seasons and even played in the Super Bowl.
Following a disappointing campaign in 2023, football analysts questioned Nick Sirianni’s coaching style. Some even went as far as calling for a sack for the Eagles to once again become contenders for the Lombardi Trophy.
Insider news’ hinted at a growing distance between Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts, who later avoided speaking about it in the media. Despite the rumors spilling out of the locker room, the Eagles opted to stick with Sirianni for another year.
The Eagles reported back to training camp on Thursday, and one of the reporters attempted to coax DeVonta Smith into revealing his views about the Sirianni. After they mentioned Hurts being unhappy with the coaching, Smith cut the reporter off midsentence.
I don’t know what you are talking about.DeVonta Smith said
It was his way of protecting the head coach from added pressure.

DeVonta Smith has stuck by Nick Sirianni in the past
Yesterday’s statement wasn’t the first time Smith defended the 43-year-old coach entering his fourth year with the Eagles. In June, the Heisman Trophy winner was at a celebrity softball game where the media questioned him about Sirianni.
Smith replied with a lot of words compared to the recent interview.
When the head man has the power to put his hands on everything, to see everything, it makes it easier on himself, it makes it easier on us, because sometimes what we may see, he may not see because he was focused on something on just one thing so much.DeVonta Smith said per Nick Faria of Athlon Sports
Even Hurts chose to take a page out of his wideout’s book during the first press brief from the training camp. Before the reporter could finish his questions, which clearly revolved around Sirianni, Jalen Hurts gave his piece of mind.
I think we’re in a great place… Anytime you have any frustration, anytime you have any adversity that you have to overcome, it’s supposed to test you. I think it’s a matter of being on the same page.Jalen Hurts said on Wednesday

Broken bonds take time to fix, but they don’t have it in their hands. This is a sign that the Eagles’ locker room is heading in the right direction with just a week left for preseason football.
