This past weekend in Las Vegas was an unforgettable experience for Dominik Mysterio. Since making his WWE in-ring debut against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam 2020, he hadn’t won a singles title on the main roster. But that changed at WrestleMania 41. He won the coveted Intercontinental Championship in a high-octane Fatal 4-Way match. What did he do immediately after that?

In a stunning admission on Busted Open Radio, the 28-year-old claimed to have shoved the championship belt right into his mother’s face. Mysterio said he spotted her at ringside while taking a long glance in the crowd.

It wasn’t the only time Dirty Dom had acted dastardly with his mom. In fact, during an episode of SmackDown in March 2023, the San Diego native yelled at her.

He did so to provoke his legendary father, Rey Mysterio, who had been reluctant up until that point to lay his hands on his son. However, seeing his wife getting berated on national television, The Master of 619 snapped and punched his brash kid in front of a packed arena. It set up their WrestleMania match that the WWE Hall of Famer eventually won. Dirty Dom still loathes his father’s instincts to this day.

I did one long glance, and out of the corner of my eye I saw my mom, and the only thing I did was shove the title directly in her face.

In the aforementioned interview, the reigning IC Champion compared his WWE career trajectory to his iconic dad’s. The Rhea Ripley-accused Chicken Tender S**t scoffed at the fact that it took his so-called deadbeat dad forever to win singles gold in WWE other than the cruiserweight title.

Meanwhile, blowing his own trumpet, Liv Morgan‘s beloved ‘Daddy Dom’ was already a tag team champ in his rookie year, the NXT North American Champ in third, and he finally has the big one.

Was Dominik Mysterio’s WrestleMania celebration pre-planned?

As mentioned above, Dominik Mysterio outclassed three other men, viz. Bron Breakker, Penta, and his Judgment Day stablemate Finn Balor, to capture the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania. After initially winning it, he quickly walked off. However, in a wholesome moment, Rhea Ripley’s WWE ex re-emerged on that ramp to celebrate with over 60,000 fans at the Allegiant Stadium.

Mysterio told Bully Ray and Mark Henry on Busted Open Radio that it wasn’t planned. However, people in the back, including WWE CCO Triple H, realized that the place was going nuts for the 28-year-old. So they decided to send him out once again to bask in the adulation of that crowd. It was undoubtedly the most babyface-leaning reception he’d received in his career, despite still playing a bad guy.

Mysterio’s on-screen girlfriend, Liv Morgan, got interviewed by Jackie Redmond after Dirty Dom had pulled off the upset. Morgan wore her heart on her sleeve while labeling her boyfriend as the greatest Mysterio of all time.

She was relieved by the fact that he restored the dwindling glory of the Judgment Day clubhouse. Morgan, however, avoided diving into Mysterio getting physical with his own stablemate, Balor.

JD McDonagh saved Dominik Mysterio from major upset last week

Barely 24 hours after putting his doubters to shame, Dominik Mysterio had his first IC title defense on Raw after WrestleMania. The Judgment Day member took on Penta in a high-stakes matchup. The former AEW star was closing in on cutting Mysterio’s title reign short, but a returning JD McDonagh had other plans.

He pushed the luchador off the ropes, allowing McDonagh’s cohort to capitalize and retain the belt. This week on Raw, The Irish Ace teamed up with Finn Balor against The War Raiders in a non-title match. During the closing moments, Penta avenged his loss by costing McDonagh the tag team showdown against Eric and Ivar.

Also, during a backstage segment, Balor expressed his disappointment over the Judgment Day, keeping him in the dark about McDonagh’s comeback. It’s rumored that The Prince will soon break away from the faction, possibly leading to a potential clash between him and Mysterio for the IC title.
