Passionate football fans always like to keep themselves updated on their favorite players; Donald Trump is no different. The President of the United States of America made sure to ask about Patrick Mahomes‘ health when he met with the owners of Slaps BBQ, a famous joint on Central Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas.

Brothers Mike and Joe Pearce, the owners of Slaps BBQ, visited the White House on Monday with a generous spread of their popular grub. Trump approached their makeshift kiosk and, before indulging in some barbecue, he asked about Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ rehab.

“Most importantly, how is [Patrick] Mahomes doing?” President Trump asked the brothers, who quickly replied, “He’s going to be okay.” Trump further added, “You tell the people we love him… He’s going to be okay. I hate to see that. So, he will start Game 1, you think?”

In Week 15 of the 2025 season, the Chiefs faced off against divisional rivals, the Los Angeles Chargers. Toward the end of the fixture, Mahomes went down with a non-contact injury. MRI scan revealed a torn ACL, which was quickly operated on within a couple of days to kick-start his rehab.

It takes about eight to nine months to recover from an ACL reconstruction properly. Mahomes shocked the world of football when he posted a workout video a little over three months after his surgery.

He’s going to be close, right? He’s a fantastic guy. Say hello to him for me.

Trump told the Pearce brothers

Mahomes will be cutting very close. At the current pace of his rehab, he could be available as early as the OTAs later this month.

[Mahomes] is in a good position to be able to do something. There’s some rules and regulations that go with that, so we got to just make sure that we’re on top of that part. If he can do some things, remember Phase 2 there’s no contact. There’s no offense versus defense. It’s Phase 3 that you get into that. Once you start the clock, then the clock’s got to be rolling, so you have to evaluate what you want to do there. He’s in a position where he can do everything, I think.

Trump has a soft spot for the Mahomes family

Trump has not been shy about his admiration for Mahomes or his family members in the past. His mother, Randi Mahomes, is a well-documented supporter of Trump.

During the 2024-25 Super Bowl, Trump took his time to greet the Mahomes family. Afterwards, Randi, Patrick’s brother Jackson, and sister Mia Randall posed for a photo inside Trump’s VIP suite.

Leading up to the recent Presidential election, Brittany created buzz by wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat in support of Trump. Trump returned the favor.

Patrick Mahomes likes to keep himself separate from politics. He has never publicly backed Trump or any other political figure. The 30-year-old prefers to win Super Bowls. He already has three rings and nearly added to his collection last year, if it wasn’t for the Philadelphia Eagles.
