Indian Sprinter Dutee Chand Nominated for Khel Ratna Award by Odisha Government

Indian Sprinter Dutee Chand has been nominated by the Odisha Government for India’s highest sporting honour, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award. Apart from Chand, 5 other names have also been nominated for awards by the government.
“I’m thankful to Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik for nominating my name for the Khel Ratna Award. May your blessing always be upon me,” Dutee said on Twitter.
The Odisha Government also recommended Indian hockey vice-captain Birendra Lakra for the Arjuna Award, hockey coach Kalu Charan Choudhury for the Dronacharya Award and former sprinter and Olympian Anuradha Biswal the Dhyan Chand Award for National Sports Awards.
“Each of them demonstrated their passion and dedication for sports and we wish them the very best,” a sports official told TOI.
Dutee Chand is all set to go to the Tokyo Olympics

Dutee Chand recently broke her own national record by setting a time of 11.17 in the 100m at the Indian Grand Prix 4. She, unfortunately, missed the automatic Olympic qualification time by 0.02s. She is however all set to go to the Tokyo Olympics based on her world ranking.
The 25 year old also won a silver medal in the 100m and 200m events in the 2018 Asian Games. She was the recipient of the Arjuna Award last year.
The Odisha government also nominated KIIT Deemed University and Odisha Mining Corporation for Rashtriya Khel Prostahan Puraskar for identifying and nurturing potential talent in the state.
