Erling Haaland has finally accepted Tom Holland’s invitation to dinner, weeks after the Manchester City and Norway striker admitted that he ignored the actor’s message because he did not know who he was.

The exchange began after Holland appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on July 13 while promoting Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film The Odyssey. During the interview, the Spider-Man actor recalled spotting Haaland in a nearby hospitality suite during the Monaco Grand Prix and deciding to message him.

Holland explained that the attempt did not go as planned.

And I just thought I’d shoot my shot, sent him a text. I never imagined I’d talk about it on live television, but here we are! That is the exact type of humbling experience that is important for actors. Like, ‘I’ll text him, I’ll take him for dinner’. Not even a response. Not an excuse, not ‘I’m busy tonight, I’m playing football’. Nada. I don’t think he’d have dinner with me after the other day.

The story quickly spread online, prompting The Tonight Show to share a clip of Holland’s interview on Instagram. Haaland responded directly in the comments section, finally accepting the invitation. “Dinner invitation accepted @tomholland2013. A little late… Just name the place!”

The response marked a lighthearted end to a story that first surfaced earlier this summer when Haaland explained why he had ignored Holland’s message. Speaking on the Norwegian version of The Assembly, the striker admitted he did not recognize the actor when the message arrived during the Monaco Formula 1 weekend.

This is a bit embarrassing, to be completely honest. We were in Monaco at the Formula 1, and then I got a message. I don’t watch movies much, so I have no idea who people are. There was one asking if we could go out for dinner, but I’d never seen him, so I didn’t bother to answer. I didn’t want to answer an unknown person.

Neither Haaland nor Holland has announced when or where the dinner will take place.
