Riot Games introduces new Background Patching system, starting with Valorant

When players try to boot up a game, they might come across a pending update or the game needing a new patch note to start. It variously upsets the players. Good for them, finally, Riot Games has come up with a great solution to the same problem. A fast and seamless experience for gaming is key to the heart of the players. It is becoming a widespread phenomenon for various online games that constantly need new patches to be downloaded, where sometimes it might take a huge chunk of players’ time to get this done. This affects the overall playtime and adds to the frustration because while players log in to play they’re instead greeted with the time-consuming process of patching the update. This cannot be skipped either since the game won’t run in the way it’s supposed to. Or at times worse, the game won’t boot up.

The answer to the bane of patch notes updating is going to be a background patch. As long as the Riot Client is active, background patching enables the Riot Client to download and install updates for all games. If you opt-in, this function will keep your games updated so they are always available for play whenever you are. Future features will also allow for the automatic opening of the Riot Client.

Players should anticipate a quicker patching procedure across all titles because some of the patching for those games does occur in the Riot Client and will be assisted by background patching especially in Valorant. This feature will be available to players who have the Riot Client beta today, with a complete launch planned for next month.

As this is a new feature it will currently only support Valorant. Beta testers for the Riot Client will begin in May 2023 with a full launch. Other games like League of Legends and Team Fight Tactics will be patched partially through the Riot Client. And eventually after a released date in full mode for Patching. Players will have to manually automate this process by allowing the system to start Patching on its own. For Windows First and Mac support, this Patching will come eventually.
For the game to patch itself players can be AFK given that the game is at least running in minimize mode. players can make their own decisions regarding the patching process. This makes sure that players get all the control to the task panel and resources will be all at their disposal.

This was everything players need to know about the background patching process. The company is yet to give more details about the same. Players need to keep an eye out for more details.
