The Game Awards 2023, one of the most prestigious nights in the gaming industry, recently concluded by crowning Baldur’s Gate 3 as Game of the Year 2023.
The game won five other awards at the same ceremony and seven at the UK’s Golden Joystick Awards. However, fans always had one complaint about the studio.
The game has been available on PC as early access for over three years. The game was fully launched for the PlayStation 5 on September 22, 2023. However, Larian Studios did not follow up with an Xbox launch for the game. The developers claimed that the Xbox Series S had trouble performing split-screen co-op.
Hence, they would require more time to make it work before the game could be fully launched for the Microsoft console. Xbox had been teasing a December release for a while, although there was no official word from the developers themselves. However, fans finally got their wish after the Game Awards 2023.
Baldur’s Gate 3 launched for the Xbox Series Consoles
While the news wasn’t announced on stage at the ceremony, it was done on the developers’ Twitter account moments after the game won the prestigious GOTY award. Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available for both the Xbox Series S and the Xbox Series X. However, it seems that the developers could not overcome their problem.
Microsoft has promised parity across all games between the two consoles. Larian Studios reached an agreement with Microsoft that allowed them to break the parity and introduce two game versions. The exception to the parity promise comes as a compromise in the co-op split-screen mode.
The co-op split-screen mode will not be available on the Xbox Series S to meet a 2023 release date for the game. The model is still available on Xbox Series X.
Despite this, all other features, patches, and updates will be available for both consoles. This is still good news for Xbox fans as they will be able to enjoy this game, which is appreciated by both fans and critics alike, with a 96 score on Metacritic.
