Trevor Ariza was once a crucial piece of the Los Angeles Lakers’ title win in 2009 but faces a different challenge now: a divorce and a dwindling bank account. Ariza, who retired from the NBA in 2022 after playing for eight teams in his 18-year career, says he has no average monthly income and can no longer sustain his lavish lifestyle.

He asked a California judge to lower his child support payments for his two children with his estranged wife, Bree Anderson, who accuses him of being abusive and neglectful. Ariza and Anderson are locked in a bitter divorce that involves a restraining order, allegations of domestic violence, and disputes over custody and spousal support.

Anderson says she has been financially dependent on Ariza throughout their marriage and deserves to maintain the extravagant life they had while married. She says they had private chefs, a household staff, Rolls Royce vehicles, real estate and business holdings, and a massive 5-bedroom, 7-bathroom home in Playa Vista. She also says Ariza was verbally and emotionally abusive to her, and some of the abuse occurred in front of their children.

Ariza denies the abuse allegations and says he is in the process of reducing his monthly expenses as he is now unemployed and cannot afford his former lifestyle. He says he makes an average of $4k from rental income and not much else. He also says he received a $418k one-time payment from the NBA, which was not recurring.

He lists his monthly expenses as $13k for his mortgage, $1,400 in maintenance, $8,900 for child care, $1,500 on groceries, $3,000 on eating out, $800 on laundry, $3,500 on clothes, $3,200 on his children’s education, $14k on various cars and $19k on other. The ‘other’ includes $4k to his personal assistant, $5,700 for basketball training for his kids, $400 for massages, $500 for boxing classes, $900 for manicures/pedicures, and $2,500 to his girlfriend.
