Carlos Sainz was left without a seat for 2025 after Lewis Hamilton‘s Ferrari 2025 announcement. The Spanish driver tried to negotiate for a move to Red Bull, but ultimately signed with Williams. Now, the 30-year-old has refuted a rumored reason for failing to sign a deal with Milton Keynes.
It is believed that Red Bull did not sign Carlos Sainz due to his past history with Max Verstappen. The Austrian team was worried that this could create a conflicting relationship between the two drivers. The two partnered each other at Scuderia Toro Rosso (now RB) when they made their F1 debuts in 2015.
Sainz highlighted that he has not had trouble with his teammates in the past, be it Lando Norris or Charles Leclerc. The Spanish driver reckoned that if this was the reason for Red Bull’s rejection, it would be simply wrong. Carlos Sainz revealed that he even informed Milton Keynes that his relationship with Verstappen would not be a problem.
Carlos Sainz optimistic over shock Williams move
The Spanish driver has put faith in James Vowles‘ Williams. Sainz even rejected a massive Audi offer to join the Grove-based squad. The 30-year-old claimed that the British team had already passed its worst phase, similar to when he moved to McLaren in 2019. This gives him confidence that the team will only go forward in the coming years.
Carlos Sainz has high ambitions for his Williams journey. The Spaniard understands that it will take some time to make progress in the midfield. However, it seems that the 30-year-old is content to have a secured seat after missing out on a potential Red Bull drive.
