Lewis Hamilton shocked the sporting world when he announced his move to Scuderia Ferrari in 2025. The seven-time world champion’s decision inevitably forced Carlos Sainz out of Maranello. Now, the Spaniard has shed light on his feelings over this move.

Carlos Sainz claimed that he could understand why Ferrari decided to replace him with Lewis Hamilton. The Spanish driver highlighted that signing a seven-time world champion would be massive opportunity which a team could not refuse.

I obviously understand Ferrari’s decision, the opportunity to sign a seven-time world champion and what it can entail and attract to a team.

Sainz admitted that he took some time to reflect on the situation after Hamilton made his announcement. Carlos Sainz even claimed that he was not hurt much as he was being replaced by none other than the most successful driver in the history of Formula 1. As such, the Spaniard reckoned that if he had to be replaced, let it be Lewis Hamilton.

That's why, when I reflected on it, it didn’t hurt me that much. Because in the end it’s not any other driver replacing you, but the best driver in history. And in the end, if one has to replace me, let it be [Lewis].

Carlos Sainz was left without a seat for 2025 after Hamilton’s Ferrari move. The Spanish driver became the biggest player in the driver market with several teams interested in signing him. However, Sainz is yet to make a decision and this has led to teams like Williams getting frustrated as they continue to wait for an answer from the Ferrari driver.

Sainz thanked teams for staying patient as he contemplated his future. Although, the Spanish driver highlighted that he has needed to be patient as well to understand what would be the best option for his future at the pinnacle of motorsport.

The teams have been very patient and I thank them for that. But I’ve also had to be patient, it’s not like I’m the only one here, the only one deciding that. I also had to take my patient pill with other things and I’ve had to be patient.

Certainly, it is unclear where Carlos Sainz is headed for 2025. Alpine has become the most likely destination for the Spaniard.
