Charles Leclerc to deploy Max Verstappen’s controversial ‘playing with the rules’ tactic in 2025 title fight?

Max Verstappen produced a sensational 2024 F1 season to amass the driver’s world championship in the third fastest car. In order to achieve this, he sometimes played a bit dirty in terms of operating around the extreme fine lines of the rules during his on-track battles.
In line with this, the eight-time Grand Prix winner Charles Leclerc has asserted that he is also prepared to deploy Max Verstappen‘s tactic in the 2025 season. The latter used the tactic well against title contender Lando Norris during last year’s campaign.
There were moments where he was not aggressive, but when the end of the season arrived, and Lando was coming back there, you could see him play with the rules a lot more, and I feel like I’ve got that in me. I know that whenever big things will be at stake, when it will be the moment to take those risks with the right people, I’ll go for it.

Verstappen and Norris had quite a few dangerous run-ins in the 2024 F1 season. The former did everything within the limits of the regulations to make sure that he was able to hold off the Brit in the world championship fight. In the upcoming campaign, Leclerc will be one of the favorites for the title alongside the mentioned drivers.

While Charles Leclerc is prepared to fight in the 2025 F1 season, he has admitted that he was not in competition with Max Verstappen last year. Ferrari’s SF-24 didn’t prove consistent enough to mount a challenge against the mighty Dutchman.
Moreover, Leclerc recently admitted to him not being a competitor for Verstappen in 2024.
We’ve known each other for a long time, and so it is always more exciting when we’re fighting together. Unfortunately [not in 2024], because at the beginning of the season, he had quite a dominant car and we were not in the fight with him. By the time we were competitive, there was Lando in-between, so he never really saw us as a direct competitor.

Leclerc has been performing exceptionally well for Ferrari since joining the team. He finished the 2024 campaign in third place by amassing three Grand Prix wins alongside 13 podium finishes.
He will have a new partner in the form of the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in 2025. Keeping this in view, the Monegasque might be forced into an extremely tough spot as far as the contention for the world title is concerned.
