Charles Leclerc has been impressive in recent races with Ferrari, showing both skill and determination with speed. Alongside teammate Carlos Sainz, he secured a long-awaited 1-2 finish at the US GP, earning crucial points for the team.
However, during qualifying at the Mexican GP, Charles Leclerc expressed frustration, feeling that his performance didn’t match his win in the previous race. Leclerc finished fourth at the qualifying which left him disappointed as he expected to be on the front row. His teammate Carlos Sainz securing the pole made it worse.
He emphasized feeling completely off saying he had no real control or connection with the car. This same issue continued into FP3, where he still couldn’t find his rhythm. This was because of the low-grip conditions of the track. Additionally, he missed a significant portion of practice sessions where Oliver Bearman was given an opportunity. This hindered his ability to fine-tune his setup for the qualifying.
I was nowhere, I was nowhere in FP2 when I got into the car I didn’t have the feeling, I was nowhere in FP3 as well.
Charles Leclerc told Sky Sports F1.
The 27-year-old managed to qualify P4, just behind Lando Norris, which is still a solid starting position. In the US GP, he also started fourth but ended up winning as Max Verstappen and Norris battled, allowing him to slip ahead. Leclerc is hopeful for a similar opportunity and feels optimistic, especially knowing he was still the fastest despite the issues, giving him confidence to compete strongly in the race.
The only thing that gives me optimism is I was the fastest on race pace yesterday.
Charles Leclerc stated.
Charles Leclerc admits he struggled throughout the weekend
Low grip tracks pose significant challenges for F1 drivers, making it tough to accelerate, brake, and corner smoothly. Charles Leclerc openly admitted he faced similar struggles but remains optimistic. He stressed the importance of starting strong in Sunday’s race.

Leclerc felt P4 was the best he could manage in qualifying due to car issues, noting that he battled throughout the weekend.
I know I struggle on low grip tracks, I’m confident the race pace is there but I need a good start tomorrow. I couldn’t have done better today – I’ve been struggling all weekend.
Charles Leclerc emphasized
If Leclerc doesn’t lead, Carlos Sainz appears ready to dominate on Sunday, having performed well in both qualifying and the final practice session. Ferrari currently holds third place in the constructors’ championship and is closing in on Red Bull, which sits second. With both cars scoring points, Ferrari could potentially overtake them and claim second place in the upcoming races.
