Lewis Hamilton seems all ready to debut with Ferrari in the 2025 season and be up to speed from the get-go. The Italian constructor has massive hopes banked on Hamilton to take the team back to their glory days in Formula 1. His performance in the 2024 season was mediocre at best despite scoring two highly coveted race wins. As a result, Red Bull boss Christian Horner suggested that a Ferrari move might just be what the 39-year-old needed.
Lewis Hamilton raced with Mercedes for over 12 years and reached monumental success with the team after winning over six championships. Due to this, Christian Horner reckoned that there was a sense of ‘staleness’ between the two entities. Thus, Horner believed that a move to Ferrari might ‘fire up’ the seven-time world champion again to start performing well.
Ferrari’s upturning performance is already a highly motivating factor for Hamilton ahead of his entry into the team. Due to this, Horner highlighted that the Briton might be a ‘serious contender’ for the championship with the team. However, the Red Bull boss didn’t discount the impending strong competition from Charles Leclerc at Maranello.
Christian Horner assures age ‘not a barrier’ over Lewis Hamilton’s move
Lewis Hamilton is already 40 years old and amongst the oldest drivers on the current grid. Thus, multiple individuals downplayed Hamilton’s capabilities due to him being out of his ‘prime age’. However, Christian Horner assured that age was not an issue of the Briton’s move. Moreover, the 50-year-old pointed out how Fernando Alonso performed well despite him being over 43 years old.
Hamilton and Leclerc will surely form a highly formidable pair on the grid and dominate the playing field only if provided with the right setup. Both drivers also need to have a similar driving style to put forth minimal problems to the Italian constructor.
