The Hungarian GP saw F1 witness its seventh different race winner of the 2024 season. However, this victory did not come without a cost, as an awkward team-orders situation commenced, which left Lando Norris dejected. His disappointment was further observed in the cooldown room when he took an unnecessary jibe at Lewis Hamilton. However, the senior driver calmed down the situation and was later commended by Damon Hill for his mature act.

After the chequered flag fell in Hungary, Lando Norris was frustrated with the team order situation and seemingly expressed this annoyance in the cooldown room. The 24-year-old took a jibe at Lewis Hamilton when the latter was complimenting McLaren‘s pace in the race. However, in stark contrast, Norris gave a disrespectful reply claiming that the 39-year-old had a fast car seven years ago and it was their time to shine now.

Despite the harsh wording, the former world champion clarified his earlier statements and did not let the issue get any bigger than it needed to be. Subsequently, this mature act was acknowledged by ex-F1 champion Damon Hill.

Yeah. It was a bit weird though. Dismissive even? LH[Lewis Hamilton] giving a typically generous and mature interpretation on it.

Hill claimed that the comments made by Norris were weird and somewhat dismissive. On the contrary, Hamilton was not bothered by such remarks. This professional act was applauded by the 1996 F1 champion, who claimed the Mercedes driver’s interpretation of the incident to be mature and generous.

Lewis Hamilton wishes Lando Norris the best for his future despite cooldown room moment

After the cooldown room moment, both drivers had seemingly forgotten about the interaction that took place earlier. The Englishmen were seen celebrating their hearts out atop the podium, as Hamilton and Norris sprayed the champagne over each other.

Later, the 39-year-old gave his best regards for Norris on his championship hunt.

But I think what’s important is just to continue to do his[Lando Norris'] journey. He’s driving great. They’ve got a great car, and they just need to keep working together as a team.
Lewis Hamilton said in an interview with Sky Sports F1

The Brit advised the McLaren driver to continue his journey. He reckoned that the young racer is driving at an extremely high level but glanced over the need to keep working as a team.

Apart from this, Norris currently trails Max Verstappen by 76 points. Moreover, the Brit would like to make significant inroads on the Dutchman during the Belgian GP weekend as the reigning champion is set to take a 10-place grid penalty, helping his rivals.
