Daniel Ricciardo the eight-time Grand Prix winner, currently does not have a seat on the grid for the 2025 F1 season. He has yet to sign a contract extension with RB (AlphaTauri) and thus, is treating all his on-track opportunities as a ‘last chance’ to impress in the sport.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda has already got a seat secured at RB for next year. Daniel Ricciardo had aspirations of driving for Red Bull in 2025 but considering the performances he has put in so far this year, the top seat seems a bit out of reach.
Ricciardo is well aware of his dicey situation at the pinnacle of motor racing.
I appreciate that I don't know if I've got one year left, five years left, so I'm treating it like it is truly my last chance. So I'm in a good place because I'm comfortable within myself and I'm comfortable with the approach I'm taking and going all in.Daniel Ricciardo via Goodwood
Looking at the reaction of the 35-year-old, it is quite clear that he’s going to give his all in the remaining eight races of the 2024 season. Ricciardo has so far managed to amass only 12 points in the drivers’ championship in comparison to Tsunoda’s 22.
Daniel Ricciardo needs to ‘earn’ his opportunity to drive for Red Bull
While Daniel Ricciardo has had a pretty up-and-down 2024 season, he is not willing to give up on his ultimate Red Bull dream. The Honey Badger really wants to have one last go against Max Verstappen in the same machinery.
Ricciardo left the outfit at the end of 2018 to race for Renault (Alpine).
Yeah. I'm not going to give a diplomatic answer. Of course, I would. I know I need to earn it. It's not just going to be handed to me but if I earned it and the chance was there, of course, I'd love to do it. So we'll see.Daniel Ricciardo via the same interview
Ricciardo last won a Grand Prix in the 2021 season with McLaren. He can’t do something like that with RB, but if he can put himself in the top 10 for the remainder of 2024, he will get noticed by Red Bull’s hierarchy. Moreover, keeping in view Sergio Perez‘ tricky situation, Ricciardo might just get the nod to drive alongside Verstappen.
