McLaren’s Oscar Piastri has been one of the hot topics in the world of F1 in recent times. He has progressively improved in the ongoing campaign and what he did during the first lap of the Italian GP, has got several esteemed personalities showering praise on him.
As the lights went out in Monza, Oscar Piastri made a daring overtake on teammate Lando Norris at turn two. The move was not expected by anyone and even Norris was extremely surprised with his teammate’s antics.
While the Brit lost out big-time because of Piastri’s move, the latter has received immense applause.
To overtake around the outside in that corner, as Mark and I know, it takes, it's a one-way street. You know, you can't really be allowed off easy. And to do that beginning of the race, it showed commitment, it showed world class quite frankly.David Coulthard via the Formula for Success podcast
Piastri has been gunning for Norris since the last few races. He has always been in and around the latter, and considering this, the remaining eight races of the ongoing season could produce some real fireworks between the two McLaren drivers.
High-time for McLaren to make final ‘call’ on the Oscar Piastri – Lando Norris saga?
While David Coulthard has not left any stone unturned in applauding Oscar Piastri, Dutch motorsport racer’ Giedo van der Garde has urged Zak Brown to make a final call on stance over Piastri and Norris tussle.
Norris has a chance to win the 2024 driver’s championship but will require priority treatment from McLaren for the remainder of the season.
Zak Brown must now make this call. He must say internally: now we have the chance. There are eight more races, and this is the chance to become champion.Giedo van der Garde via DRS: The Race Show
As things stand, the 24-year-old is 62 points behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. The job is doable, especially keeping in view the might of the MCL38. At next week’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, several eyes will be glued on the McLaren garage to see how they will handle their two prolific drivers.
Piastri is not one to back down from a fight and would want to win as many races as possible this year. However, from Norris’s position, this will prove detrimental to his pursuit of the driver’s championship.
