List of F1 Drivers who reside in Monaco and their luxurious residences

There is a whole pack of sportspeople that live in Monaco. There are tennis stars such as Bjorn Borg, Caroline Wozniacki, and Novak Djokovic, among others. And there’s also a host of current and former Formula 1 drivers that call the Principality home – among them is the seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, who is joined by Nico Rosberg, reigning world champion Max Verstappen, Monaco native Charles Leclerc and more.

The primary reason for the drivers to reside in Monaco is rather obvious. The Principality of Monaco enforces no personal income tax on its residents – which means that it is a premier tax haven. For the rich and famous – there is likely no better boon.

It is also an attractive place for other reasons, as it’s nestled right beside the Mediterranean Sea and also close to the Alps. If you like gambling, it is also probably the most famous gambling destination east of the Atlantic Ocean. The financial security that the principality provides is likely second to none.

All are likely aware of Monaco’s destination, and the fact that it is also home to the most prestigious event on the Formula 1 calendar may also add to the decision-making process for Formula 1 drivers. So, without further ado, here is a list of current Formula 1 drivers who have residences in Monaco.

Charles Leclerc

From this list, Charles Leclerc is the only person that can truly call the principality his home. He was born in Monte Carlo and has resided there his whole life. Despite being the only Monegasque native on the list, Leclerc did not in fact come from a very wealthy family. In fact, he is from a ‘middle-class’ background.

Charles Leclerc has a fairly lavish apartment in Monte Carlo. While it is not extravagantly luxurious – it is certainly sleek and comfortable. Moreover, he has a Grand Piano in his living room and you can see some of his trophies from racing in the background. It seems that the Ferrari superstar is a man of many talents – music among them.

Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton has many houses, including ones in Colorado, New York, and London. But like others – he also possesses a property in Monaco. Not much is known about the exact location or contents of his residence but we have a few hints.

Back in 2007, the then McLaren driver was believed to have been looking for a ‘2000 square foot duplex with four bedrooms’ in the Fontvieille district of Monte Carlo.

Max Verstappen

The reigning world champion, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen resides in a 13.4 million euros apartment – but he does not own it, instead choosing to rent it. Perhaps this means that he does not intend to spend his whole life in the glittery crown jewel of Formula 1.

Fitness is incredibly important for sportspeople, and perhaps even more so for Formula 1 stars, who cannot afford to slip up at all. The Dutch superstar also owns a Red Bull branded electric scooter, and his car collection is said to be breathtaking. He has taken to social media multiple times to share snapshots of his life in Monaco, including of him exercising, outdoors.

Daniel Ricciardo

This YouTube video from ‘Donut Daze’ has Daniel Ricciardo touring Monaco with other people. While he hails from Australia and owns other properties – the ‘Honey Badger’ resides in Monaco for most of the year, that is, when he is not traveling for the sport.

Ricciardo has a highly-coveted comfortable one-bedroom pied-à-terre in the city. Because most Formula 1 races are in Europe, (and Monaco has no income tax) it means Ricciardo is in fairly close proximity to the other races. Ricciardo also revealed that the city completely changes face during Grand Prix weekends.

Lando Norris

Daniel Ricciardo’s teammate, Lando Norris also moved to Monaco at the end of last year. He has revealed that the decision to move from Britain to the small principality is mainly down to financial factors and his long-term security.

Valtteri Bottas
