Max Verstappen’s swearing drama has escalated to a point where every driver, team, expert, and key figure in the sport is discussing it. The FIA punished the Dutchman for his outburst during a press conference by fining him and asking him to do community service.
Fernando Alonso shared his thoughts on the issue and offered advice to his colleague Verstappen regarding swearing. Many Formula 1 drivers have supported Max Verstappen after he was punished by the FIA. His biggest rival, Lewis Hamilton, advised Verstappen not to complete the penalty, stating that he himself wouldn’t do it.
Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso emphasized that swearing serves as a reminder that many people are watching F1. He asserted that, as public figures, drivers should behave decently and set a good example, especially for young fans who look up to them.
Alonso asserts that if Verstappen wants to express an inappropriate or offensive opinion, he should choose his words carefully. He emphasizes the importance of being politically correct. Instead of using harsh language or making negative comments, the Spaniard suggested that drivers and others in the public eye should express their views in ways that do not offend or hurt anyone.
Fernando Alonso highlights drivers have ‘responsibility’ to use their words wisely
Fernando Alonso emphasized that drivers have a responsibility to their fans, who look up to them both on and off the track. No driver wants fans to see them expressing frustration or using abusive language, as this creates a negative impact on their image and the sport’s legacy.
The Spaniard said that while the FIA’s decision to punish Max Verstappen was harsh, that does not absolve the Dutchman of all blame. Meanwhile, Verstappen’s penalty remains in place and F1 drivers will discuss the matter further with the FIA in Austin.
Many drivers agree that the FIA punishing the three-time world champion was hard and not appropriate. They believe the situation could have been handled differently. This has prompted a debate in Formula 1 about what constitutes acceptable language and the pressure on drivers to maintain professionalism.
