Lewis Hamilton will join Scuderia Ferrari in 2025. The seven-time world champion announced his move to Maranello even before the start of the 2024 season. The entire sporting world was shocked to see Hamilton decide to end his journey with Mercedes. However, Ferrari’s recent struggles might pose a challenge for the British driver.
Scuderia Ferrari seemed to be the closest team to Red Bull in the past two seasons. Carlos Sainz was the only non-Red Bull driver to win a race in 2023. However, things have changed this season. Despite winning two races, Maranello has been forced to play catch-up against the likes of McLaren and even Mercedes.
Lewis Hamilton is already the first driver apart from Max Verstappen to win two races so far this season. This comes after Mercedes showed rampant improvement in its pace in last few races while Ferrari’s woes have continued. As such, Maranello’s recent form could be a cause of concern for the seven-time world champion.
Ferrari looks no longer as promising as it did six months ago
Lewis Hamilton has raced in Formula 1 since 2007. The 39-year-old has a long and successful career at the pinnacle of motorsport. It is thus no surprise that the Briton was rumored to be in talks with Ferrari in the past. However, during those times, Mercedes was simply far ahead of Maranello, making a switch to the Scuderia an irrational decision.
Things changed when Fred Vasseur approached Hamilton before the start of the 2024 season. Mercedes had struggled immensely in the past two seasons with Lewis Hamilton last taking a win in 2021. On the other hand, Ferrari was the sole competition to Red Bull. As such, the Briton decided to join the Italian team on the basis that it could provide him with a title fight in 2025.
Now, Mercedes seems to have the upper hand once again. The Silverstone-based squad has won three races this season, the most after Red Bull. Lewis Hamilton is undoubtedly happy to see the team succeed. However, the seven-time world champion might question his move to the Scuderia if the Italian team does not improve after the summer break.
Certainly, it will be interesting to see how things pan out for Ferrari in the remainder of the 2024 season. The Tifosi would be hoping to see Maranello bounce back after a string of poor results, especially to convince Lewis Hamilton that it was not the wrong move.
