Scuderia Ferrari has been the closest contender against Max Verstappen and Red Bull since the start of the ground-effect era in 2022. Charles Leclerc even attempted to fight for the title that year. In 2024, it seemed that Maranello would once again try to challenge the reigning world champions. However, things have not gone as planned for the Scuderia.

Carlos Sainz reignited Ferrari’s hopes at the start of the year after he emerged victorious at the Australian GP. Moreover, Charles Leclerc finally put an end to the Monaco curse after winning his home race. The Scuderia is still second in the standings, albeit with just a seven-point gap to third-placed McLaren.

The triple header did not go well for Ferrari, with just a single podium in the three races. While Mercedes managed to win two back-to-back GPs. Moreover, Leclerc reckoned that the team ‘threw away’ his race at Silverstone last weekend. As such, it is evident that Ferrari is under pressure to perform in the coming races.

Ferrari far behind in development race against rivals

Mercedes and McLaren have brought major upgrades in recent races which has resulted in better results on-track. While Max Verstappen and Red Bull have performed most consistently over the course of the season so far. Unfortunately, Ferrari’s upgrades have failed to improve the pace of the SF24.

So much so, that the Scuderia was forced to revert back to the Imola spec car. Carlos Sainz claimed that this has cost the team ‘months of development.’ Perhaps the real reason for the Italian team’s struggles in recent races. Moreover the team has also lost its head of Aerodynamics Enrico Cardile to Aston Martin.

This comes at the worst possible time for Maranello. While the team is struggling to perform, its future driver, Lewis Hamilton ended his 945 day win drought with Mercedes at the British GP. Many might question Hamilton’s move if the Silver Arrows manage to overtake the Scuderia in the standings by the end of the season.

Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur would undoubtedly be aware of the challenges in front of the team. The Frenchman would once again need to transform the Scuderi’s fortunes within a matter of weeks to prove himself as a capable team leader, who can consistently achieve results at Maranello. Fans would be looking forward to seeing how things pan out in the coming races.
