Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton will be repping the iconic Red gear of Ferrari from 2025 onwards. A lot has been said about this unprecedented move and with only three races remaining in the ongoing season, Ex-F1 driver Jacques Villeneuve has revealed how Hamilton can leave a ‘forever’ legacy at Ferrari.

Lewis Hamilton has been competing in Formula 1 since 2007. He has over the years amassed a joint record of seven world championships and is moving to Ferrari with a clear objective of amassing an eighth.

Winning again with Mercedes would not really serve any purpose. It is a Ferrari. It’s the biggest name in the car or motorsport industry, and Lewis has been the biggest name. So, link the two. If he can win with Ferrari, he will be forever unbeatable. That’s it. And he will cement his name. It’s very simple.

Hamilton will partner with the prolific Charles Leclerc at Ferrari. The Monegasque has been making his trade with the Maranello-based outfit since 2019 and is today, considered one of the best on the grid. Keeping this in view, it won’t be easy for the Brit to get the better of Leclerc.

Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari move ‘worth taking the risk’

While Jacques Villeneuve has backed Lewis Hamilton to do something unprecedented at Ferrari, he feels the latter is in a win-win situation. Villeneuve has asserted that even if Hamilton fails to amass a championship at Ferrari, he will still always have his stellar records.

The 39-year-old has so far managed to amass a record 105 Grand Prix wins in the sport.

If he doesn’t win with Ferrari, he still has all the records. That would just be the ultimate step. So it’s worth taking the gamble. Sometimes you go on a hunch, and you jump, and you hope that the other ship is better.

Hamilton has not been able to fight for the coveted drivers’ world championship since 2021. The ground-effect era has not belonged to Mercedes and this is one of the main reasons why the Brit has not been able to fight against the likes of Max Verstappen at the extremely sharp end.

Ferrari has been on an upward trajectory this year and if they can manage to produce a strong car for 2025, Hamilton will most definitely be seen fighting for the world title. All eyes will be glued on the seven-time world champion next year.
