Lando Norris has been backed by the 2009 F1 champion Jenson Button to keep up with his championship-winning streak. The 2026 season will introduce new regulations, which could prove to be a massive challenge for all drivers. However, Mercedes’ positive development in the power units will directly contribute to McLaren’s success in the upcoming season as well.

Lando Norris won the 2025 championship by a mere two-point lead over Max Verstappen, and could have lost it at any moment. However, Norris performed well when it mattered most and lifted his maiden championship. Now, the Briton has already snapped back at Verstappen following the latter’s disappointing comments on the 2026 regulations.

Moreover, Lando Norris has been backed by many people to win his second consecutive driver’s title in the 2026 season. This includes Jenson Button, who is confident that the McLaren star will achieve his second title win. Button asserted that it wouldn’t be hard for the 26-year-old to go again and have a shot at the championship. However, the 2009 F1 champion reckoned that Norris needed a new challenge, which the new regulations of the 2026 season will give.

Jenson Button pointed out that Lando Norris would surely arrive confidently and face the challenge of the new regulations in 2026. The former F1 driver continued that everything Norris achieves after his first title win is a bonus for him. As such, the Briton will definitely be a formidable force on the track because of his refreshed mindset.

It’s not hard [to go again] but you need a new challenge, And that’s what this regulation change brings. And you arrive confident. You know you can do it – you’ve done it. So, it’s more everything after winning a world championship is fun. It’s a bonus. And going into a season thinking that way, he’s going to be a formidable force. I really think so.

Jenson Button told Sky Sports F1.

Lando Norris reveals the ‘different things’ about the 2026 F1 regulations

The 2026 F1 regulations have divided the group of drivers into two different sides. Many believe that the new regulations are way too complex and might not be fun to witness for the fans. While others believe that they should give it a chance and watch it transform into something fun. Meanwhile, Lando Norris has opened up on what different things can be expected by the community.

Lando Norris reckoned that despite the regulation change, the drivers would still prepare for the races similarly to the previous regulations. The drivers might spend more time on the sim and try to get used to the different buttons on the steering wheels and how things worked differently for this era of rules. As such, the changes were more procedural now as compared to before, and teams would transform themselves well to adjust to the changes.

I mean, you’re still preparing a lot of the same ways. Probably a bit more time has been spent on the sim, trying to get used to the different buttons, the different way things work, So, more procedural stuff rather than anything else changing outside of that. But like every season, you review how the last year went, and you see what you can do better, and a lot of the work goes into that.

Lando Norris said, as reported by motorsport.com.

The 2026 season is right around the corner, and it will bring new, exciting challenges for the teams and drivers. It will be interesting to witness which team manages to keep up with development and achieve the best results possible. Lando Norris will certainly face a stiff challenge from the likes of Oscar Piastri, Max Verstappen, and others.
