Red Bull‘s 2024 season was full of ups and downs. This transcended into their on-track performance as Max Verstappen‘s title defense salvaged their year. However, witnessing the extent to which his son had to push to win his fourth drivers’ title, Jos Verstappen stressed the 27-year-old’s possibility of leaving Red Bull.
The Austrian giant began the year with allegations being put against its team principal Christian Horner. Subsequently, its design head, Adrian Newey backed out and went on to sign for Aston Martin. This further led to a mass exodus within the team.
On the other hand, this spooled up speculation regarding Max Verstappen‘s future on the team as the majority of the senior members looked to be on their way out. Despite this, the Dutchman asserted his loyalty to the Milton-Keynes-based outfit.
Regardless of his claims, Jos Verstappen is still skeptical of the ordeal. He insisted that if Red Bull is no longer the team to beat, his son could jump ship to rivals.
Seeing Jos Verstappen’s reaction, all the eyes lay upon Red Bull as the team is tasked to build a championship-worthy car. If the Austrian squad is unable to make any inroads into McLaren‘s advantage, the probability of Verstappen not seeing out his contract becomes highly likely.
Jos Verstappen praises his son for a stern title defense
During the 2024 season, since the Emilia Romagna GP, Verstappen did not have the fastest car underneath him. Despite this, he made the best out of the machinery he had to contend with and put up a magnificent title defense.
Observing the work that his son had done to win the driver’s title, Verstappen Sr. was proud of him.
On the other hand, McLaren would be repping up to amass the championship double this year. The English team is expected to be the favorite in the 2025 season, giving Lando Norris a serious chance to win his maiden title. So, Red Bull would need to pull out a wild card from their inventory to give Verstappen a chance at clinching his fifth consecutive world championship.
