The Spanish GP weekend starts a triple-header for the coming weeks. The weekend has been full of entertainment, as quite a few teams seem to be in the mix. However, in FP3, Lance Stroll took out his Aston Martin for a hot lap but was impeded by a slow-moving Lewis Hamilton, who immediately jumped on the radio and expressed his frustration against the seven-time world champion.
The 4.6-kilometer track has had a fair share of winners in the past few years. However, the track is infamous for drivers impeding each other in every edition of the Grand Prix. This was subsequently witnessed when Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris came together in the early phases of the free practice, and a similar incident was observed between Lance Stroll and Lewis Hamilton.
The Canadian shared an anger-charged message at the Mercedes driver for halting him.
This **** guy thinks he's alone on track.Lance Stroll said over radio
The 25-year-old was sensibly irritated by the seven-time world champion’s antics. On the contrary, Hamilton acknowledged his mistake and claimed the incident to be his fault, while admitting that he did not see Stroll close up in his mirrors.
FIA not happy with Lance Stroll’s subsequent actions
Despite Hamilton admitting his mistake, Stroll wanted to express his discontent and made a spontaneous move running the Brit out of asphalt. Furthermore, his move led to both the drivers making contact and urging the FIA to make an investigation.
FIA shared its verdict regarding the incident between the Canadian and the Englishman after the session was over.
The driver of Car 18[Stroll] stated that he got impeded by Car 44[Hamilton] into Turn 5 and that upset him. He admitted that he wanted to express his displeasure to the other driver by pulling over on him at the exit. Both cars made slight contact which was incidental. However, the Stewards consider the move made by Car 18, whilst not being dangerous, to be erratic and therefore issue a driving reprimand in line with precedents.Report of the investigation by FIA
The stewards agreed that the 39-year-old had impeded the Aston Martin driver. However, they were unhappy with Stroll’s subsequent move and deemed it to be erratic. Fortunately, this only earned Stroll a reprimand, while a penalty for such incidents is not unlikely.
Apart from this, Aston Martin is currently in the realms of the lower midfield and is barely able to scrounge for points. If the 25-year-old had earned a penalty for his incident with Hamilton, then his weekend would have been one to forget as he currently stands 11th in the interim driver’s standings, two positions behind his much-experienced teammate.
