McLaren driver Lando Norris has delivered his comments on Carlos Sainz‘s move to the James Vowles-led Williams Racing in 2025. Sainz signed with Williams despite being speculated to join teams like Mercedes and Red Bull.
Carlos Sainz has been in top form this season, scoring 162 points for Ferrari so far. But the Spaniard’s next year’s move to the Grove-based team gave rise to various opinions amongst many in the Formula 1 paddock.

Lando Norris who is a friend and a former teammate of Sainz, claimed that he should have been a part of Red Bull for the upcoming season. Williams Racing’s glory days are long gone and the outfit has scored only four points this campaign, enduring a difficult spell in 2024.

Williams will be delighted to secure the services of the 29-year-old Spaniard, who is one of the best drivers on the grid currently. Sainz will be at the heart of a rebuild for the team with the coming of new regulations in 2026 as they look to rise up the pecking order in Formula 1.
Guenther Steiner not shocked by Carlos Sainz rejecting Audi for 2025
Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has deemed Carlos Sainz’s move to Williams as a major loss for Audi. The German giants had the latter at the top of their shopping list since the start of the 2024 season.

I would say I’m surprised, not shocked. I don’t get shocked anymore, it takes a lot to shock me. I am little bit surprised. But as I said before with the Audi team, if you bring a Carlos Sainz and they’ve got Carlos Sainz and Nico Hulkenberg, that attracts other big talent, because you are taking it seriously, you have done everything you could to get the best people there.Guenther Steiner said on The Red Flags Podcast
Guenther Steiner said that he was a little surprised by Audi’s unsuccessful attempt to sign the 29-year-old. Steiner also mentioned that had the Spanish driver joined the Germans, they would have been able to attract other major talents as well.
Sainz has come clean on quite a few occasions to commit willfully to Williams Racing. He will now seek to write a new chapter in his career, chasing greater wins and podiums after the end of his last/ongoing campaign with the Ferrari F1 team.
