Max Verstappen and Lando Norris pushed themselves to the limit during the Austrian GP last weekend. Things took a turn for the worse as both cars suffered from heavy damage after making contact. However, it seems that Norris would need to continue such an approach if he wants to defeat Verstappen for the world title.
After the Austrian GP, Lando Norris claimed that his friendship with Verstappen could be at risk and even asked for an apology. On the other hand, Max Verstappen had a calmer approach who made it clear that he will keep racing hard for victory.
While the F1 paddock expected things to get further heated between the two, Norris ultimately backtracked over the apology remark. As the British driver cleared things out with Verstappen. Perhaps Lando Norris even realized that the Dutch driver would never apologize for such a move. As such, Lando Norris has no choice but to race hard against Max Verstappen for 2024 title.
Lando Norris not used to high pressure fights in F1
Max Verstappen is a three-time world champion. The Dutch driver managed to defeat Lewis Hamilton in the controversial 2021 title fight and was able to manage the pressure throughout the season. On the other hand, Lando Norris has never been in a real championship battle before 2024.
Norris has just won a single race in his F1 career, this year’s Miami GP. Moreover, the McLaren driver had failed to win the Russian GP in 2021 in wet weather conditions. As such, Lando Norris might have a more emotional mindset when it comes to fighting for wins. This was visible after the Austrian GP collision with Verstappen.
However, it is time for Norris to understand that such hard racing is the norm in Formula 1. The British driver needs to keep calm and not get ahead of himself in making aggressive lunges against Verstappen. As Max Verstappen is arguably the best driver in F1 currently, who will never back down when it comes to fighting for lead at the pinnacle of motorsport.
