Lando Norris has finally won the 2025 driver’s title after a long-fought battle with Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri. The Briton won the championship with just a two-point lead over Verstappen. Despite Norris’s success, he is still being criticized by the F1 community, with many fans calling him an ‘undeserving champion’.

Though these comments are certainly nonsensical, the 26-year-old believes that it might be because of his controversial comments about Lewis Hamilton and other drivers in the past. Since the beginning of Lando Norris‘ career at McLaren in 2019, he has been known to make hilarious and witty remarks on the team radio during races.

Moreover, the Briton has made some controversial comments in the past, especially about Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, which have landed him in hot water. Now, after winning his first title, Norris has achieved a newfound perspective in life and reveals the ‘regret’ in his F1 career so far.

Lewis Hamilton forgot the old beef and congratulated Lando Norris on his maiden title win, and was extremely delighted for a fellow Briton to win the title. Now, Norris reckoned that he tried his best to give as much respect as he could to the F1 veteran.

The one-time champion claimed that Hamilton was always compared to Michael Schumacher, and they both are the greatest drivers witnessed in Formula 1. The 26-year-old accepted that his singular title win against seven for the Briton was nothing in comparison.

I might have said some things at times in the past that everyone talks about, about Lewis. Some things I regret and I wish I could take back and never have come out my mouth. I try and give as much respect as I can to Lewis – he’s seven-time world champion. He’s the best driver – you compare him to Schumacher – the best driver that’s ever been in Formula One. I’m not even close to that. I might never be.

Lando Norris said, as reported by express.co.uk.

Lando Norris honestly pointed out that he regretted many of the things he had said in the past in the cooldown room or during interviews. However, he tried to play it off by claiming that those statements were made in the heat of the moment and did not always reflect his true feelings.

Moreover, he later questioned why he had said what he did during the interviews. Regardless, Norris accepted that he tried his best to be a genuine person and speak the truth whenever it mattered.

Do I regret some of the comments I might have said in cooldown rooms or whatever it is? Yes. But a lot of those are in the heat of the moment. And by the time I’ve said it, I’ve gone, ‘Why the hell did I just say that?’ So, I try and be as genuine as I can. I try and always speak the truth.

Lando Norris claims he won 2025 F1 title “without being like” Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen impressed the entire F1 paddock with his stellar comeback in performance. The Dutchman was seemingly out of contention after being 104 points adrift of the title lead. However, his late-season charge helped him finish the season on a hot ten-race podium streak, achieving the most amount of race wins in 2025 and only being two points behind Norris.

Now, the 2025 F1 champion claimed that he won the title without being overly aggressive like Verstappen. Now, Lando Norris claims that he did not need to change himself or his driving style just to succeed in the title hunt.

He noted that he won the title on his terms and did not lose his true self in the process. Norris was glad that he wasn’t aggressive like Verstappen, or forceful on track as other champions have been in the past.

I feel like I have just managed to win it the way I wanted to win it, which was not by being someone I’m not. Not trying to be as aggressive as Max or as forceful as other champions might have been in the past – whatever it may be.

Lando Norris noted.

The end of the 2025 season certainly marks the end of an era for Max Verstappen. The ground-effect era was the most successful era for Verstappen despite the massive struggles he faced along the way. For now, victory is Norris’, and he will definitely enjoy the high while it lasts. The 2026 season will be all the more exciting as Oscar Piastri’s title defeat will only fuel his hunger for the title next year.
