The McLaren crew has scored a massive comeback in terms of performance since the 2024 season. Lando Norris has been showcasing an impressive racing talent. The pole-sitter was expected to bring home his second race win at the Spanish GP. However, multiple mistakes at the start caused the Briton to lose the race as he showcased his discontent with the loss.
Lando Norris‘ pole position was extremely close to Max Verstappen‘s lap during the Qualifying session. Additionally, McLaren’s strong pace this season further increased the chances of a race victory. However, Max Verstappen and George Russell‘s start to the race enabled them to score a quick overtake on Norris from the get-go.
As a result, Norris took to team radio to express his regret for losing the race win to Verstappen. The 24-year-old mentioned that he should’ve won the race since the race started. Subsequently, the Briton accepted that he ‘f**ked’ the race start which ultimately cost him the race victory. Regardless, Norris congratulated the team for the incredible chassis performance despite adding that the team deserved better.
I should have won, but I ***** the race start. The car was incredible, well done. We deserved better.Lando Norris said on his team radio.

Lando Norris clinched P2 in the drivers’ championship after strong drive in Spain
Lando Norris’ start to the ongoing campaign was extremely strong compared to a majority of the drivers on the grid. Ferrari had also sustained a great start. However, multiple blunders down the road have cost Charles Leclerc the runner-up spot in the drivers’ championship. The double DNF in Canada was the nail in the coffin for Leclerc’s spot in the championship standings.
Norris’ fastest lap at the Spanish GP in addition to a runner-up finish has enabled him to score great points. Hence, the Briton has successfully achieved his highest-ever spot in the drivers’ championship in his career. Lando Norris will likely hold the runner-up spot for some time due to his extremely positive performance in the season.
