Lewis Hamilton achieved a commendable third place in the qualifying session of the Singapore GP. This marked his best qualifying performance since the summer break. The Briton has been out-qualified by teammate George Russell for most of the season, and Singapore was just his fifth race where he started ahead of Russell.

Lewis Hamilton‘s qualifying struggles have been very evident, particularly when compared with teammate George Russell. He has often battled inconsistencies with the Mercedes W15. At the Australian GP, he recorded his lowest start (P11) and later started from the pitlane at the Azerbaijan GP.

F1 pundit Lawrence Barretto stated that after Hamilton’s strong Singapore GP qualifying, he eagerly explained why it felt so rewarding. Hamilton credited Mercedes for turning things around and improving the car’s performance.

He gave the longest answers he’s given in a long time! He’s been tough on himself from a qualifying perspective. Not really understanding, I think that scared him a little bit, not understanding why he couldn’t do the thing that has made him so famous all these years.

Lawrence Barretto said on F1 nations podcast

Qualifying has been Hamilton’s strength for years and this decline had left him uncertain. The confusion about why he couldn’t perform at his usual level caused him to be scared, especially given his reputation for excelling in qualifying.

Lawrence Barretto observed that Hamilton felt much more connected with the car, which allowed him to outperform several competitors in qualifyin. However, due to Mercedes’ poor strategy and tire issues, he finished the race in sixth place.

He said that he felt connected with the car, which was interesting. And pumped for the race. Which made me think, even if he didn’t say it publically, he thought he could take the fight forward.

Lawrence Barretto opinned

The seven-time world champion has accumulated over 174 points and currently holds sixth place in the drivers’ standings. With six rounds remaining, it seems unlikely that Hamilton will win a title in his final year with Mercedes.
