Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes had a difficult start to the ground-effect era of Formula 1. The seven-time world champion failed to win a single race in the past two seasons. As the Silver Arrows struggled to make a capable car. However, things had seemingly changed in 2024.

Mercedes had finally started to bridge the gap to Red Bull at the front this season. The Brackley-based squad won two races in a row in Austria and Great Britain. Team boss Toto Wolff even labeled Hamilton’s win in Silverstone a ‘fairytale.’

Moreover, Lewis Hamilton took the win in Spa-Francorchamps after George Russell’s disqualification from the race. After the Belgian GP, it seemed that the Silver Arrows were going to be title contenders. Unfortunately, things have not gone as planned in recent weeks.

Lewis Hamilton’s frustration growing with every race

Many believe that Hamilton’s switch to Ferrari was driven by Mercedes’ inability to build a title contender in the past two seasons. Although, the seven-time world champion was supportive throughout the team’s struggles. It seems that Lewis Hamilton is unable to hide his feelings even though he will leave Brackley at the end of the season.

The 39-year-old has had a string of woeful Saturdays despite showing promising pace in Free Practice. Lewis Hamilton even admitted that it was frustrating to have a repeat of poor Qualifying at so many races. Although, George Russell has tried to showcase a more positive outlook publicly.

The 2024 F1 championship is one like no other. The top 4 teams have all won at least three races, something unheard of in modern F1. However, this has made it extremely difficult for Mercedes to stay at the front consistently. With the Silver Arrows falling a long way off McLaren and Red Bull, while barely fighting the Ferraris.

Certainly, time is running out for Hamilton and Mercedes to take more wins this season. The Silver Arrows need to make progress with major upgrades if it wants to finish third in the standings. However, it remains to be seen how things pan out for the Brackley-based squad in the coming races.
