Max Verstappen has emerged as a serious contender for the 2025 driver’s title after struggling in performance since the beginning of the year. Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris are still in the lead, but the point deficit has been reduced significantly now. As such, Lewis Hamilton, who is no stranger to fighting with Verstappen for the title, has provided some suggestions to the Papaya Squad in their championship ambitions against the Dutchman.

Following Max Verstappen‘s dominant race-winning streak and positive results after the summer break, he is now just 40 points adrift of the championship lead to Oscar Piastri. With just five races left until season completion, Piastri must defend the title lead with all his might. However, Verstappen will definitely not make life any easier for Piastri in his championship ambitions in the 2025 season.

Lewis Hamilton, who is suffering from struggles of his own with Ferrari this year, has provided some advice to Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. Hamilton insisted that Piastri and Norris had achieved success in different categories of motorsports in the past, with the Aussie being an F2 champion in the past. As such, both of them had experience fighting for the coveted title.

However, Lewis Hamilton felt in no position to advise Oscar Piastri on winning the title against Max Verstappen. Still, he reckoned that Piastri needed to be cut-throat, especially against Verstappen, as he was exactly that. Hamilton insisted that the McLaren drivers needed to push hard and dig deep to hold off someone like the reigning world champion in the dominant Red Bull challenger.

They have won other championships in other categories. I’m not one to really want to give advice to them but, in that scenario, it’s challenging when you’re in the team. The pressure is high. You really have to be cut-throat. That’s what Max is, he’s going to take this from them if they don’t do the same. They’ve got to be pushing and you have got to dig deep to, firstly, be able to hold off someone like Max and in the car that he’s in at the moment.

Lewis Hamilton claims Max Verstappen’s title charge ‘easier’ than title defense for Oscar Piastri

The championship leaders in Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris, and Max Verstappen, are all great drivers who have shown little to no errors this season amid their championship ambitions. While Piastri and Norris have made occasional mistakes, Verstappen has yet to make any massive blunder.

Now, as the Dutchman aims to close the 40-point deficit, Lewis Hamilton makes a bold claim that chasing the title win is much easier than defending the lead for the Aussie. Lewis Hamilton reckoned that he couldn’t predict the outcome of the title battle between the top drivers, just like everyone else.

However, he did insist that Max Verstappen hunting for the title was easier than Piastri defending it. Hamilton noted that the title chaser did not have anything to lose as they were not leading anyway. On the contrary, the leader had everything to lose and had to be perfect at all times to maintain their lead.

You have got three incredibly-talented drivers. I can’t predict how they’re all going to behave but, of course, Max has won it four times, so he knows what it’s like and being the hunter is much easier than being the defender. If you’re chasing you have nothing to lose, as opposed to when you’re in the lead you have everything to lose.

Lewis Hamilton noted.

The constructors’ title is already won by McLaren following the positive outing at the Singapore GP. However, the driver’s title battle is far from over, as the fight will definitely drag on until the very end of the season. As such, it will be very interesting to witness which driver manages to win the title, as all of them are equally worthy of winning the coveted championship.
