Scuderia Ferrari made headlines by announcing Lewis Hamilton‘s arrival for 2025. The seven-time world champion’s move is being considered one of the biggest in the sport’s recent history. Former Ferrari President Luca Cordero di Montezemolo has now insisted that this signing does not relate solely to marketing.
Hamilton’s switch to the Scuderia became the hot topic in the sporting world this season. As per reports, the British driver will further bring in lucrative sponsors from Mercedes to Maranello. On the other hand, some have raised concerns over Lewis Hamilton’s form.
Nevertheless, Montezemolo asserted that Hamilton is a phenomenon like Max Verstappen. The former Ferrari Supremo made it clear that it was not just a marketing move by the Italian team. Though, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo mentioned that Lewis Hamilton wished to end his illustrious Formula 1 career at the Prancing Horse.
Ferrari’s 2024 problems were not linked to Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz
Ferrari has faced backlash from many in the grid for replacing Carlos Sainz with Hamilton. Luca Cordero di Montezemolo has now stated that the current driver lineup of the Italian team was not a problem in its 2024 campaign. As the Scuderia managed to take the Constructors’ title fight down to the fire. Thus, Montezemolo could have subtly hinted that signing Lewis Hamilton might not have been a real need for the Scuderia.
Lewis Hamilton remains hungry as ever to win his eighth F1 title. Ferrari could be the right place for the Briton, considering the team’s recent rise in performance. However, there are no doubts that Hamilton faces a stiff challenge to bounce back after a couple of difficult seasons.
