Max Verstappen and Red Bull faced a tough fight in 2024. Milton Keynes decided to replace Sergio Perez with Liam Lawson for this season to have a more competitive line-up. However, F1 presenter Martin Brundle reckons that Verstappen will remain the sole driver at the front for the Austrian giant.

The 2025 season is expected to witness another fierce battle for the title. Brundle mentioned that McLaren will likely see both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri fighting each other on-track. With a similar situation at Ferrari, between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.

I think it’s different for McLaren a little bit because they have two drivers who could take points off each other. Ferrari, that could well happen too.

On the other hand, the F1 pundit was quick to label Red Bull a ‘one-horse race’ for Max Verstappen, without even mentioning any prospects for Liam Lawson. The Briton further indicated that Mercedes might have a similar situation with George Russell due to Kimi Antonelli making his debut.

Max and Red Bull, that’s a one-horse race. We have Antonelli in the Mercedes who has a lot to learn, so Mercedes could also be a one-horse race with George Russell.

Max Verstappen still the ‘man to beat’

Martin Brundle highlighted that Red Bull will be hoping to make a much-needed recovery at the start of this season. He made it clear that if Milton Keynes has managed to have a quick car yet again, Max Verstappen would still be the man to beat for the 2025 world championship.

Honestly, we’ll see if Red Bull have recovered their car. That is the key thing. If Red Bull have recovered their car and Verstappen is on form, he will still be the man to beat for the title.

Martin Brundle explained

Certainly, Verstappen remains confident of potentially securing his fifth world championship this year. The reigning world champion would be banking on getting a fast car from Red Bull. However, the Dutch driver can expect to witness stiff competition from McLaren’s Lando Norris and even Lewis Hamilton at Scuderia Ferrari.
