Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are the two biggest names in Formula 1 right now. Both drivers have not been in a head-to-head battle since the infamous 2021 Abu Dhabi GP. Now, Verstappen commented on the Briton’s chances to win the world title with Scuderia Ferrari this year.

Lewis Hamilton joins Ferrari with the aim of bringing glory back to Maranello. The seven-time world champion is getting accustomed to the starkly different SF-25 after spending his entire career with Mercedes machinery. Nevertheless, he remains determined to achieve success with the Scuderia.

Max Verstappen was asked whether Hamilton will be in a position to be in title contention following his switch from Mercedes to Ferrari. The reigning world champion asserted that Maranello must first provide the 40-year-old with a car capable of fighting the likes of Red Bull and McLaren at the front of the grid.

‘No debate’ over how good Lewis Hamilton is in F1

Max Verstappen applauded his arch-rival. The Dutch driver emphasized that there was no debate over good Lewis Hamilton is as an F1 driver. However, the Red Bull star noted Hamilton can only be in a championship battle if the car is quick enough. Though, Verstappen pointed out that if the Briton was fighting for wins, it would be good for the sport.

I mean, we all know how good Lewis is, there’s no debate on that, so, it depends on the car. When you are fighting for wins, it is always really nice and good for the sport.

Lewis Hamilton will be hoping to have a good start to his first-ever season with Scuderia Ferrari. The 40-year-old has even learnt Italian to better familiarize himself with his new team. Though, the Tifosi will have to wait till the season opener in Melbourne to see if things go as planned for the seven-time world champion.
