Max Verstappen has been dominating from the front in F1. The Dutchman is known for his love of motorsport and is often associated with a move away from F1 once he retires to join other forms of racing. However, the Red Bull driver has deemed racing in the World Endurance Championship at Le Mans to not be a viable alternative due to a particular grey area in the regulations.
Despite winning championships in F1, multiple drivers are known for their lust for motorsport. Previously, Fernando Alonso won the esteemed endurance race in 2018 with Toyota and inched ever closer to acquiring the triple crown of motorsport. This ambition was understood to have been present in Max Verstappen due to his passion for endurance racing in the sim and had previously hinted about it.
Despite fonding to race around the French track, the Dutchman bashed the series for its lack of stringency.
I feel like there needs to be a limit on that, because I might rock up, 80 kilos with kit, but there is also a driver that can be 55 or 60. I find like, when you go to Le Mans, you have no chance. You know that already is a couple of tenths a lap. It’s pretty incredible, the difference. So they need to sort that out. There needs to be an average or minimum weight that you need to comply to.Max Verstappen said in an interview with Racefans
The reigning champion elaborated that WEC has a peculiar problem with its nature. The cars are often regulated to be within a few tenths of each other and thus, driver weight is quite crucial in determining the result of the race. Regardless, the FIA has turned a blind eye to this fact over the years, which has led Verstappen to drive away from the thought of competing in the race under the current regulations.
Max Verstappen is focused on his career with Red Bull
Though the Dutchman seems to be wondering about future ventures after his retirement from F1, he has been extremely loyal to Red Bull in recent years. Moreover, the shenanigans going around Milton Keynes spooled rumors about his exit from the team. But Verstappen claims that he is unaffected by the drama going on behind him and is focused on performing on the track.
Subsequently, the 26-year-old gave his perspective on the tussles going on within the Milton-Keynes-based team.
I would rather not have these stories, these things going on within the team. We just have to deal with it and move on from it. I am contracted to the team to do my job, that’s performance, that’s what I am focused on. I am not a politician, I am not someone who likes to be political. I just focus on the performance with the people around me, try to distract myself from, let’s say, the negative.Max Verstappen said in an interview with The Guardian
Verstappen lamented the stories that have been circulating in the media regarding his future with Red Bull. Furthermore, he claimed that the drama going on in the background has not had much effect on his commitment to the Austrian marque and is solely focused on performing at his level best.
Despite his claims, the triple champion is known for his strong stance on firm leadership within the team. Thus, Red Bull has a task on their hands to calm the situation down soon, as it could have huge repercussions going into the upcoming years of F1.
