Max Verstappen‘s performance at the US GP saw a massive improvement after he won the sprint race. The Dutchman performed extremely well over the weekend and is looking hopeful of maximizing results during the main race. However, despite starting on the front row, Verstappen is facing a torrid time with the RB20 chassis at the COTA circuit.

Max Verstappen was on the trajectory to score the pole position at the US GP if it wasn’t for George Russell‘s crash during Q3. The Dutchman still tried his best to gain the lead on the race start, which went in vain. Regardless, Verstappen has continued to fend off well against the in-form Lando Norris and the Ferraris ahead of him.

Red Bull’s performance struggle is evident at the US GP despite great performances from Verstappen. The 27-year-old took to the team radio to berate the woeful pace of the RB20 chassis. The Dutchman pointed out that the tires were not performing well. Moreover, Verstappen faced braking issues in the challenger and was unable to attack the rivals well on the track.

These tyres are just not good. I can’t brake. I can’t attack in any way.

Max Verstappen is highly unlikely to win at the US GP

Max Verstappen was unable to secure the lead going into Turn 1 of the US GP after Ferrari’s dominant pace from the start. The Dutchman is trailing behind Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz respectively. Moreover, Lando Norris is constantly breathing down the neck of Verstappen for the podium finish towards the end.

Red Bull’s struggles have continued to put forth an extremely difficult time for Verstappen in the 2024 season. Despite winning the sprint race, Verstappen’s lead in the drivers’ standings will take a massive hit after losing the podium at the US GP. The 27-year-old also had the opportunity to break the world record for most wins on American soil which he is unlikely to attain now.

Regardless of the fallout in performance, the three-time champion has maintained a positive attitude overall in America. He still has a comfortable lead in the drivers’ standing irrespective of the results at the US GP. Additionally, Milton Keynes must desperately work on their form to enable the Dutchman to maintain his championship lead.
