Max Verstappen is having a phenomenal run in the past couple of weeks. After a record-breaking victory at the Italian GP, the reigning world champion has clinched pole position for the Azerbaijan GP this weekend. Though Verstappen insists that a day will come when he won’t really pay attention to his past results.
The Red Bull star is one of the most successful F1 drivers in history. Max Verstappen shattered several records over the years and has bagged four back-to-back titles. The Azerbaijan GP pole lap was an incredible performance as Verstappen managed to stay out of trouble. On the other hand, his rivals made some big mistakes.
Max Verstappen was asked whether he would remember this to be one of his better performances after the session. The 27-year-old made it clear once he gets older, he would simply not care about what he achieved in the sport. Verstappen was likely joking with this answer, after all he has worked so hard throughout his life to win in F1. However, considering his old-school nature, the Dutchman might as well be serious.
I think when I’m older I won’t really care.

The reigning world champion further commented that his rivals struggled to get things right in Qualifying. Lando Norris made a costly mistake during his final run, while Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc crashed out in Q3. This presented the perfect opportunity for Verstappen to capitalize on the chaos to clinch pole.
Qualifying was a long one.. Nobody really got into a rhythm. But maybe that was good for me!

Max Verstappen warns of ‘challenging’ Azerbaijan GP
The Azerbaijan GP is one of the most chaotic races on the F1 calendar. The Baku street circuit is known to push drivers into making mistakes and this was the case on Saturday. However, Max Verstappen is not sitting back after taking pole. Rather, the Red Bull star is aware that his rivals will bounce back stronger in the race.

Max Verstappen insisted that the two McLarens and perhaps even Ferrari will be fighting for the win tomorrow. The reigning world champion asserted that despite starting far behind him, Norris, Piastri, or even Leclerc have fast cars that can quickly make up places.
I still think the challenge is going to come from them (Mclaren), Ferrari as well. I know they’re further back but i know some of these cars they will clear quite quick.

Verstappen starts alongside his former teammate Carlos Sainz on the front row in the Williams. Even Liam Lawson in P3 is the Red Bull star’s ex-teammate. The top 3 is followed by the two Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell. While Sainz and Lawson have pushed above their weight, they may fall down the pecking order as predicted by Max Verstappen.
Certainly, the Azerbaijan GP will be an interesting race to watch. The starting grid is enough to evoke excitement among fans. Perhaps, fans can see a new driver on the podium for this season, or maybe even a Liam Lawson redemption story. However, one thing is clear, Max Verstappen is the favorite to win a second race in a row.
