McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has shown his discontent over Daniel Ricciardo‘s fastest lap in Singapore. Ricciardo stole a crucial point from Lando Norris in order to help Max Verstappen in the drivers’ championship.

Daniel Ricciardo has had good relations with Max Verstappen both as teammates and as friends in the past. The 35-year-old also races for Visa Cash App RB, which is a sister team of Red Bull, maintaining good relations with the Milton Keynes squad as well.

Andrea Stella has thereafter talked of sportsmanship, deeming Ricciardo’s fastest lap as peculiar in helping Red Bull. Stella has also said the issue must be addressed as it lands an unfair advantage for the Milton-Keynes-based team.

I don't know the facts. I just saw that RB went for the fastest lap, and they achieved it. But for me here talk about sportsmanship and so on, I think is..., it would be out of place. So I think we have to take it at face value. This needs to be definitely addressed. But at no point I have elements now to say RB went for the fastest lap to support the Red Bull. I just find it a little... how to say... peculiar. I did not see it coming.

Ricciardo’s fastest lap means that Lando Norris now trails Verstappen by 52 points in the title race. The Australian’s effort might just prove to be the differentiator between the two as Formula 1 proceeds towards the end of the season.

A fantastic evening here in Singapore with a dominant victory for Lando, and Oscar managing to recover a couple of positions and finishing in P3. Achieving back-to-back victories is another milestone for us.
Andrea Stella said after the Singapore Grand Prix

Lando Norris won the race in Marina Bay with a commanding lead of 20 seconds over second-placed Max Verstappen. A week before in Baku, Oscar Piastri was the driver to claim his second career win in only his second-ever professional season.

Oscar Piastri put in a thunderous effort to finish P3 on the podium after starting P5 during the Singapore Grand Prix. With the constructors’ championship in favor of the Papayas, they will now look to help Norris claim the drivers’ title as well.
