Hungarian GP 2022: Three drivers who can bag a surprise podium finish
Hungarian GP 2021
Hungarian GP comes at the back of a pretty entertaining French GP which saw Max Verstappen win his 7th win of the season after Charles Leclerc crashed out of the race. One team that impressed in France was Mercedes as Lewis Hamilton and George Russell finished P2 and P3 respectively. George even got the better off Sergio Perez. But, these drivers are already the favorites to occupy those podium positions. So, let’s have a look at drivers who could spring in with a surprise.
Fernando Alonso

One driver that has impressed this season is Fernando Alonso. It’s not like that the two time world champion has something to prove but to see a driver perform at the age of 40 is definitely impressive, especially when F1 continues to become more and more demanding physically. Fernando has dealt with everything in his own style and come out with some impressive performances, with the latest one coming at Paul Ricard. He finished 6th and coped with the pressure brilliantly from Lando Norris, making him a strong contender for the coming Hungarian GP.
Fernando after the French GP said, “It shows that when we have a clean weekend like this one, then we can finish in the top-six positions. Hopefully we can keep up this level of consistency throughout the second half of the season and continue our momentum.”
Lando Norris

Lando Norris and McLaren go hand in hand these days . It can be said that McLaren can be called a one driver team or Lando’s team. The young Brit has carried the pressure and expectations in style as he had next to no support from team mate, Daniel Ricciardo. We saw yet another strong drive from the 22 year old as he finished behind Fernando Alonso to claim P7 and secure 6 crucial points for the Woking based team. We can expect more of the same at the Hungarian GP and with a bit of luck, we might see him on the podium.
Esteban Ocon

We have talked about how impressive Fernando Alonso has been but, despite of that, he has been outscored by his talented team mate, Esteban Ocon. The Frenchman started from P12 in his home race but recovered to finish P8 in front of Daniel Ricciardo, which was important for Alpine in their quest to finish P4 in the constructor’s championship. Esteban has quietly been chipping away at the points and definitely deserves a podium. Knowing what he did last year, you just can’t write him off.
