The carnival on wheels has reached Spain to host Carlos Sainz’s home Grand Prix. This circuit has always come bearing gifts for the Spaniard as he has never finished out of the points in any of the races he has competed at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. It’s been a hunting ground for him but it’s a different challenge altogether for the Ferrari man.

In the previous occasions, when Carlos Sainz has stepped on the track he hasn’t had the pace of the cars at the front of the grid. But the situation is pretty different this time around as Ferrari has built a car which is a contender for winning both the championships. So, the question that arises is whether Carlos Sainz will be able to secure his first ever podium finish in his home Grand Prix?

It certainly feels like that Carlos Sainz hasall the ingredients to break that streak of non-podium finishes in Spain. The Spaniard has been in blistering form as he already has registered three podiums in the first five races of the season with the latest one coming in Miami. Sainz was utterly unlucky to have spun off the track and out of the race in Imola due to a collision caused by Daniel Ricciardo.

But he was able to shrug it off quickly and came back strongly in Miami. Carlos Sainz looks completely focused as he revealed in his recent interview with Motorsport. He said, “It’s an intense week, also a very fun week. It’s a real opportunity to make a podium or win a race at home, it’s a unique feeling that I’m really looking forward to.”

“I think the fact that the tickets have been sold and that there will be a full house shows the good direction in which Formula 1 is going, the support that we have in Spain and I think it will be very entertaining and fun.”

“It would be my first [victory] and for that reason it would be very special and, second, it would be at home. This is what I work for every day, trying to make it happen as soon as possible and the one who wants to win the most is me.”

This is a golden opportunity for Mattia Binotto’s golden boy to secure a podium finish in front of his home fans. This can also be the race where he can turn around his season and pose a threat to Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc as a serious title contender.
